In the Game Applied Christianity According to good old Websters the word applied
means to put into practice. So what we do is to teach, coach, cheerlead, and
help partner churches as they put in to put into practice the principles of
applied Christianity. A friend suggested that folks may have head knowledge but lacked heart changing belief. That this is keeping them from the transformation role we have been called to in this world. His clarifying question was, are people who are not willing to do what we have been called to do really living with Holy Sprit power?" He said they may be saved but not living that way. Wow, this could really kick off a bunch of discussions and or arguments, but is there truth in what he says? Are we so stuck in acquiring head knowledge that we are not acting as if? Is this a faith issue? Is this a real lack of understanding of what Kingdom living is about? I think it is worthy of serious examination. I just read the morning paper and its filled once again of mans' inhumanity to man. My question is: what would it look like if Jesus Christ lived in our neighborhoods? At WINN we are called to be a part of the solution. We are called to help churches help people. Do you want our help? It is what I / we do. On the Field This past Sunday afternoon the youth group
from New Community Christian Church joined Set Free Church at Mile High and some
WINN staff. They spent an hour talking about how to be of service in the community
and at school, then helped sort clothes in the thrift store. Youth Pastor Rick
Whitfield and the 10 youth remained for the 5:30 service, then later enjoyed a meal
together with the congregation. Good job, everyone! This is a great opportunity for your church to Reach Outside The Walls as well as Inside the Walls and help people. This year it seems even more important to give some HOPE to folks that we, the Church, care about them. Right now we are planning for our Thanksgiving project in conjunction with Abiding Hope Lutheran Church. A few other congregations have expressed their interest in joining us. Our goal is to supply holiday food boxes for 800-1000 families. These boxes will be filled with non-perishable food items and a voucher to King Soopers for a turkey. Funds are needed to purchase many of the groceries and vouchers for items that we will not be able to "scounge." If you'd like to participate by helping pack the boxes or distribute them, and/or donate toward the expense, please phone Hank as soon as possible. On Nov 19 we'll be unloading the food items, on the 21st we'll gather to pack the family food boxes, and then on the 22nd they'll be available for distribution. Again, if you can help as an individual or as a congregation, give us a call at 303-239-9123. Game Strategy With Thanksgiving on it's way, we're expecting a lot of turkeys, holiday gift items, winter coats, blankets, etc. Without a warehouse, our ability to receive and distribute these items will be severely handicapped. We don't want to turn away from opportunities to make a difference, but without help, we may not have a choice. We are looking for 5-10,000 square feet of warehouse. At worst-case, we need a warehouse to use temporarily as we work to build or remodel a more permanent home to establish a ministry center. Please pray that we find a place. Please call folks you know and help us help people in need. There are buildings in the community that have been vacant, in some case for months or years, but it takes CONNECTIONS to open doors. Can you help? The Huddle BALD & GETTING DANGEROUS!!! No, we're not talking about Pastor Doc (although he's going bald, he's not too dangerous). We're talking about the tires on his truck. He puts 400 to 500 miles a week on his truck doing pickups for the ministry. Snow season is on us and the tires are in pretty bad shape. Unless someone has a set of good tires LT235/85/R16, we could use about $500 for a set of new tires to make it safely through the snow season. If you are able to help, please contact Pastor Doc or send a check earmarked "Truck Tires".Find out what's going on around

Refreshment Stand Need any colorful costumes? Many are here already and quite a few will likely show up in early November. Call Pastor Doc at 303-239-9123 if interested. "Let's do lunch!" Say, this FRIDAY at noon, our office? We'll provide the food, smiles and company! Join us at 125 S. Kalamath, Denver. Oh, and come HUNGRY! The CheerScaffolding At WINN we help churches help people. We help them accomplish their vision of reaching the lost, training them up, then sending them out to reach others. The church is called to help people attain wholeness of mind, body and spirit. Our ministry is called to stand beneath them and support them. You could say we're a type of "scaffolding." A little research and I found something called "instructional scaffolding" on Wikipedia.org. It is "the provision of sufficient supports to promote learning when concepts and skills are being introduced." These supports include: resources, a "compelling task," and "guidance in the development." Hmmm...yep, that sounds just like what we do! When we consider scaffolding that's physically erected to support a structure, it's still a great picture. Either way, it's what we're ALL called to do. We're all to stand beneath each other. "Therefore encourage one another and build up one another." (1 Thess 5:11). We're all "Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ." (Gal 6:2) Our foundation is Jesus. The steel that we're to be built of is our faith. And we succeed when we stand linked together. Lifting you up, The Cheerleader |
