In the Game Over the years I have been involved in many meetings where one group of pastors/church leaders says aloud that they want to bring folks across "boundaries" to be "one church." At the National Day of Prayer outreach at the Capitol this year, in spite of challenging weather, we moved a step closer. We have an opportunity on July 26, 2008 to take another step. Joining with Hispanic congregations from across the community, we can all gather in the core of our state Capitol to celebrate, pray and be unified for Jesus Christ. The only flags in evidence will be of the United States of America or banners with the name of Jesus Christ. No other flags or names of congregations. Just one people, one church, on one day claiming our State for God. Come cross a line…. On the Field This past Friday we were blessed by an amazing group from St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church in Centennial. About 25 adults and young people helped us contact 500 homes in our area, delivering flyers about outreaches and services. They cleaned and mopped the City Church facility which we had used on Thursday to unload pallets full of goods. They also pitched in to clean our big truck parked behind our office, as well as sort out items stored within it. What an incredible team! THANK YOU ALL!!! We're continuing the search for a building to house our offices and warehouse. We're hoping to accommodate the growing Ministry Center so we're searching for a place with great potential. The warehouse needs to have a wide dock entryway for our freezer. Please email possibilities to Hank at hank@winnministries.org or phone 303-239-9123. Game Strategy "The second most common reason men tell me that they don't pray usually has to do with not knowing how to pray. I suspect that this is one of the most honest responses given. We can get some help here straight from the Bible. "The Lord's Prayer" is found in Matthew 6:5-13, along with some do's and don'ts of prayer. In a nutshell, prayer is communication with God. Communication means there's talking AND listening taking place. It's just talking to your loving, heavenly Father straight from your heart (and waiting for His response!). You don't have to say, "Thee" and "Thou." Just talk to God like you would talk to me if I was sitting across a table from you. He's listening to your heart, not your mouth anyway." -- Excerpt from "PRAY 15" coming this summer! The Huddle Join us THIS FRIDAY! Potluck, Praise & Prayer is back! WINN will again be hosting a monthly dinner, with this one in conjunction with folks from the National Day of Prayer team. Meet us at 6pm at The Coffeehouse, 3401 W. Alameda (one block west of El Shaddai Church). Members from several worship teams will be present. Good food, great fellowship and dynamic worship! Set Free Mile High Church is holding services on Saturday evenings at 5:30 PM at the WINN building: 125 South Kalamath, Denver. Pastor Doc Winters will be speaking. For questions call: 303-239-9123. ALSO note that on the 4th Saturday of every month this congregation will be holding an outreach with City Church in conjunction with WINN at the same location beginning at 3pm. Refreshment Stand We're REALLY buried in stuff! If your congregation has a need, we have an abundance of some things we need to move out ASAP! We have boxes of children's slippers, toys, holiday items, tile grout, weed killer, and 3-ring binders, to name a few! Call Pastor Doc if we can load up your vehicle! Our Friday lunches enable us to get better acquainted with our "neighbors." Why not stop by for a visit from noon to 1pm and join us? We'd love to have you as our guest at the WINN office at 125 S. Kalamath, Denver. COMPUTERS! We accept monitors for recycling with a $5 donation for each. We also have some working Pentium 3 computers available to churches to distribute. Call Al Throckmorton at 303-239-9123. The Cheer A question of worth Rich or poor, famous or obscure, all mankind has the same question for God: Do I matter? We all crave affirmation of our worth. G.K. Chesterton once wrote, "All men matter. You matter. I matter. It's the hardest thing in theology to believe." When Adam fell we lost the easy intimacy that existed with our Creator and have been struggling to regain it ever since. Consider Verizon's smart advertisement, "Can you hear me now?" While officially conveying a message about good phone reception, it caught on like wildfire because the same question can have other implications. Ever ask, "God? What do I have to do to get your attention? Can you HEAR me?" Ask an atheist why he denies God's existence and within his reply is, "He didn't answer me." It isn't God's existence that we often defend, so much as it is His silence. If we mattered to God, then wouldn't He answer us? Wouldn't we see His provision? Wouldn't the sick be cured? Hardships erased? A world at peace? Certainly He desires those. He raised up a people for Himself and told them to go do it! The "them," of course, is His body – us. Even more than being His hands and feet, I believe we're called to be His reflection. 1 John 4:12 "No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us." God IS love, and to a world that's searching for significance, to feel loved by its Creator, we need to show His face reflected through ours. After all, being made in His image was His idea. Go ahead and answer the question for someone today: You matter! The Cheerleader |
