In the Game

"The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?"  (Proverbs 18:14)

Almost any Christian can tell you how faith can get you through many troubles. But what about those without faith? What about the lost, who have no heaven to store treasures in, no Comforter, no Counselor, no Spirit to stand beside them? And without that, what good is just seeing another day? That's not living, that's surviving - and the difference is a spiritual one. Christ said he came that we may have life, and more abundantly. So while feeding people is a good thing to do - I'm going to go out on a limb and say it is not enough. We are called to feed spirits, mend souls, and bring the Gospel - which translated literally means "good news." And we can't do that with a handshake and a short, typed Scripture. We have to get to know someone; be willing to let our guard down and show them our own lives, tell them about what the Lord has done for us. Share with them - not only our resources, but also our time and spirit.   ---  Coach Hank

On the Field

Thank you to the kids and staff of St.Thomas Moore Catholic Church.   They pulled weeds, cleaned the church and coffee shop, answered phones and did some filing. In addition they helped distribute the food that came in Thursday and helped serve Friday lunch. What a tremendous blessing!!!

FREE HEALTH FAIR! Kaiser is offering free medical and dental services on Sunday, Aug 3, from 8am to 3pm at 1375 E. 20th Ave, Denver. There'll be a wide variety of free medical services, from mammograms, diabetes and cardio assessments, to immunizations and children's vision screenings. If you'd like more information or to volunteer, please phone 303-344-7560.

Game Strategy

Due to the March of Glory event on the 26th, we have decided to cancel this month's Potluck, Praise & Prayer.  We're going to focus on the march and then begin planning NEXT month's PP&P dinner!

On a State and local level, you can join us a for a one-day "Glory March." On July 26, 2008 we will be marching with Hispanic congregations to the capitol in a show of unity to pray and celebrate our Lord together. The only flags displayed will be of the United States of America and banners with the Name of Jesus Christ. Just one people, one church, on one day claiming our state for our One God. Travel route will be in next newsletter. Call WINN with questions.

Please feel free to print-out and distribute our weekly online newsletter, "Off the Bleachers." We try to fill it with updates on our activities, how you can connect with other ministries, and a message to uplift and help carry you through your week. By sharing this newsletter with others, you could be instrumental in connecting them with resources they need for themselves or their ministry. Pass the word along!

The Cheer

When I've got a problem that I don't know how to grapple with, I either head for the mountains or hit the dirt – literally. I can't always up and drive into the mountains, but trust me, there are always plenty of weeds to be pulled!

There's something therapeutic about ripping weeds from the ground they're violating. You can either "rip their heads off" or dig deep and pull them out by their roots. I've done both, depending on my mood, but for really getting to the "root" of a problem, you've got to struggle with the whole weed. How deep does it run? Is it connected to another? Am I too late to stop it from spreading? The analogies are almost endless.

It's both cleansing and rewarding when we can uproot a weed in our life. Just the challenge of the effort inspires me and supplies the momentum to keep going. Some days are more complicated than others, and it's always easier to find my way through them when my view isn't so obstructed or distracted. The best part of the digging process for me is that I'm never alone in it; the Master Gardener is there with me, guiding me and helping me plant something new and lovely in each newly created space.

Enjoy your summer gardening!
